experimental publication: Avert
With this project, the goal was to create a compelling publication using an experimental layout. The publication served as a yearly update on the general state of major world issues and covered a range of environmental and societal issues. To instill a sense of urgency, each spread was created using a mixture of edited imagery as well as range of vector shapes/assets to achieve a deconstructed appearance. This design choice was meant to emphasize the rapidly deteriorating conditions of our world. Additionally, the structure of the publication allows for multiple folds and hidden pages which encourages readers to closely examine each spread and stay focused as they flip and turn through the pages to learn more.

1 - Some preliminary logo sketches.

2 - Rough sketches were then moved into Illustrator and color/ texture was added.

3 - The project was based on an assignment which I had completed during a much earlier graphic design course.

4 - That original assignment was limited to three spreads and a cover image. This class was done remotely, so the project scope was limited.

5 - The experimental design stemmed from the visual choices made in the original project. The old spreads took on a deconstructed appearance, this influenced the new version.
