poster: mapping pc
In this project I was tasked with creating a “map” of a concept or place, the main goal was to create an effective system to guide the viewer. I opted to create a map on the layout of a PC (personal computer). With this assignment I simplified the way in which the various parts of a computer speak to each other, so that people with little to no knowledge on the topic could understand. My design used imagery of computer components as key waypoints, simple lines and arrows of varying thicknesses differentiated between the multiple types of connections that occurred between each part. The color and modification of imagery, along with the usage of simple linear structures, helped make the poster reminiscent of a blueprint.
The original poster was static, however I did create an animated version.

1 - Project began with some preliminary sketches of computer components.

2 - The early sketches served as a brainstorming activity to generate ideas for which pc components would be included in the final.

3 - The first layout concept was very literal, each computer component was drawn and wired as it would be in reality.

4 - The second layout iteration focused more on the purpose of each component and how they connected to each other.

5 - The third concept further simplified the design, taking on a more 2D appearance. The final would be a mixture of the second and third iterations. Simplifying the information while maintaining visual interest.
